At EMP180° our mission is simple. We want to educate, inspire and EMPower you to live a healthy life.

When we started EMP in late 2016 we noticed a huge void in the weight loss industry: there were plenty of companies willing to help people lose weight, but not one addressed the root causes of weight gain and the all-too-common challenge of weight management. Hello Yo-Yo Dieting!

After watching loved ones experience ongoing weight-related health conditions as well as facing our own personal challenges, we knew there was a better way. We wanted to help people not only lose weight, but learn how keep it off long-term. Fundamental to this goal was providing a program where clients could learn about proper nutrition, and be empowered with a full understanding of how to maintain optimal health. Because “life happens,” we also knew that on-going support beyond the initial weight loss was key.

No two people are alike, so we wanted to make sure that our weight loss program was personalized and customized for the unique needs of every individual. Ensuring a positive and consistent client experience from the minute a client walks through the door was also important.

In December of 2016, we welcomed our first client, Grant Paulsen, a well-known Sports Talk Radio personality in the Washington, D.C. area. Since then, we’ve helped well over 3000 clients lose weight, change their habits and behaviors, and live healthier lives. We’ve hired over 30 health coaches and have opened 5 locations in the DC Metro area.

Our clients rave about their results and their experience at EMP. We value our clients and we’re grateful that they have trusted us with their health and wellness needs — we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

You have high standards and so do we. We will continue to hire great people, find ways to challenge the status quo and always make our clients the number one priority.

Jim

After turning 50, Jim realized he needed to start investing in his own health. His father and paternal grandfather had both died at age 52, due to complications from being overweight. After talking with his doctor and with the encouragement of a close friend, Jim decided it was time to get healthy and began a weight loss and nutrition program that enabled him to lose weight. His journey and the results he experienced, directly influenced his decision to open two weight loss centers on the West Coast.

After several discussions with Eric about the weight loss business in the Washington D.C. area, they agreed that there was an opportunity to create a unique weight loss experience – and EMP180° was born. Jim enjoys sharing his personal weight loss journey with clients, and in turn is inspired by clients overcoming their own challenges.

When Jim isn’t at EMP you will probably find him at the practice range or on the golf course. He is an avid golfer and will tell you that losing weight dramatically improved his game, giving him a better swing path and more mobility. He is also better able to navigate the golf course with his 25lb bag on his back.

Eric

Eric has a life-long relationship with health and fitness, originating from his time in the U.S. Marine Corps. While on active duty, he competed in several fitness events, as well as amateur body building contests in southern California – reaching the podium several times. Eric knows that health and wellness are the result of daily commitment to nutrition.

Seeking new challenges, Eric began triathlon training and has completed 43 Sprint, Olympic and Ironman distance races to date. Most recently Eric completed Escape from Alcatraz.

When Eric isn’t training or competing in triathlons he is a financial advisor in the Washington DC area (since 1987) and is Vice Chairman for both the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund and Navy Mutual Aid Association.

EMP 180⁰ is the culmination of Eric’s passion for health and fitness combined with his 30+ years as a professional personal financial advisor and humanitarian advocate. With EMP 180⁰, Eric is committed to changing weight loss to be more personally empowering with real life personal advocacy and coaching while keeping to the science of nutrition.

Eric is often at the five EMP 180⁰ locations as he calls EMP his “happy place”. He enjoys interacting with the clients and staff, always making time for a quick word. When Eric isn’t working or competing, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 adult children.
